A big thanks to Jackie for giving us a special scoop on her DVF interview!
One word. Diane.
She's a real life statue. As iconic as the feminine silhouette she's wrapped around us for decades and I got to interview her!!! My job as a TV Host has allowed me to do / taste / see some pretty amazing things -- and NEVER have I been so geeked out as when I got the call to sit down and chat with Diane Von Furstenberg. In an industry as seasonal (and sometimes disposable) as fashion, the Belgian beauty is one of the rare few who has managed to reinvent herself without losing her signature style. You see a fancifully patterned wrap dress, and you know exactly who was behind it!
But wait, interview of a lifetime and nothing to wear!!! What to sport to the meeting of a fashion legend? Obviously some DVF glitters my closet, but nothing seemed good enough. Oh noes. And then, your wonderful web hostest with the mostest came to my rescue! The signature wrap dress you see in the pic is an 11th hour save by my dear Kate, and it couldn't have been more perfect!!!
It was early in the morning at her brand new Soho store when DVF appeared through the giant glass doors. She whirled in with all the poise and grace you'd expect. She's quite regal -- but what I loved most about her was that she appears to have embraced her age the way I hope to one day. Which is not to say she's not strikingly beautiful, she is. It's the kind of beauty that comes not from a syringe, but rather from a confidence and comfort in where you've been and where you're going. Diane (yes, we are on a first name basis now, haha) was kind, but brief. The most lovable tidbit she shared was her favorite pair of shoes. Which do not, in fact, come from her own line. Any guesses? Her hiking boots! Turns out this lady of luxury uses nature to inspire the prints hanging on the racks... and eventually the stylish women of the world. Miss Von Furstenberg left as smoothly as she arrived but not before complimenting my attire... oh this old thing, Diane? Been in my closet forever :-)
