Hey everybody!  Kate and I are going on a Blogging Hiatus to spend some quality time with our family.  We will be back up and running on May 2nd!

Yes, these are our toes.  Maybe we missed our calling as foot models?

*UPDATE* Em (left) is wearing OPI's "Need Sunglasses?" and Kate (right) is wearing Essie's "Neon Funky Limelight" :-)

Why do I want to see this movie you ask?

1.  I love Robert Pattinson.

Colours

Farrow&Ball is my fav for classic colored paints and wallcoverings!  If you are looking for a quick pick me up in your home, paint always does the trick.  Check out Farrow&Ball's New Colours for 2011 (love colours not colors).

Gray is my go to colour ALWAYS.  It is a great neutral and very modern.  If you are thinking beige I would recommend a great gray instead.

Picture Window

Did any of you watch the miniseries "Mildred Pierce" on HBO? I have seen bits and pieces of it.  I did watch when Mildred moves into this lovely mansion and they show this amazing picture window...

LA Times
Do you see it on the far wall, behind the piano?  The huge window with the amazing frame around it.  I definitely will add this to my list of "Must Haves" in my dream home.

Of course I had to find a picture of it to post here and the LA Times did a whole article on the homes in the miniseries.  It looked like a fun set to work on.  Finding 1930s furniture to fill the sets with.  I wish I had that job!  You can read the article here:  http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/home_blog/2011/03/mildred-pierce-houses.html

Smoothie Queen

Now that it is getting close to summer it makes me want to get in to the habit of making a smoothie for breakfast in the morning.  I do not have a lot of time in the morning so it would need to be an easy recipe with only a few ingredients.  I found the Zacarito Smoothie Recipe and I think it sounds delicious and easy to make!

Zacarito Smoothie

http://myfitnesshut.blogspot.com/2011/03/eat-smoothies-for-healthy-snacks.html

INGREDIENTS

1/2 container of Welch’s Frozen 100% white grape juice concentrate
1 peeled banana
1/2 cup Strawberries
, fresh or frozen (if frozen, let thaw 15 min)
1/2 cup Pineapple Chunks, fresh or canned
1 to 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
Ice Cubes
DIRECTIONS

  • Pour the concentrate into blender.

  • Add fruit and scoop in yogurt

  • fill blender half way with ice

  • Blend until thick and smooth (should not be watery or thin

    1. Option: For Adult Twist*
    2.
    3. Add 3/4 shot glass of brandy or 1 shot glass of strawberry vodka into the bottom of the blender before following with concentrate, fruit, yogurt and ice. Blend until thick and smooth
    4. If you prefer, you can substitute a splash of milk for the yogurt.
You may add or leave out any fruit. The frozen concentrate is important for this recipe, it makes it think, and gives it a stronger flavor.

*No, I will not be making it with the "Adult Twist" in the morning :-)

    Before and After

I once did a project in grad school comparing an area of Chicago in 1910 and now, and I found it really interesting.

This video does something similar.  If you love Chicago, take a look at this video!  http://vimeo.com/22058807

    Travelling with Gwyneth

My last post about Gwyneth Paltrow for the day, I promise!  Have you ever seen her suitcase?

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/gossip/2010/11/gwyneth-paltrow-goop-louis-vuitton-luggage.html
I am so jealous of this LV rolling bag with her initials monogramed on it.  I want one!  You can go on the LV website to decide what colors you would want on your own bag.

    Here is a link http://www.louisvuitton.com/web/flash/monmonogram.jsp?langue=en_US&buy=1#/monogram/personalize?skuId=P00031.

It will only set you back $4,500.00.

    Cooking with Gwyneth

Kate and I both love Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin.  We once went to a Coldplay show in Chicago and it seemed like Chris was singing directly to us, and we started freaking out!  But then we turned to look who was behind us and there was Gwyneth.  Either way, it was still exciting!

If you aren't signed up for her GOOP news letter well then I will try to convince you to sign up by showing you what we got in our inbox this morning!

GPM has a new cook book and she made dinner for 60 of her friends.  I cannot beleive Kate and I were not invited, maybe next time!?

    http://www.goop.com/

Kate and I both want the book.  Once we make a few recipes we will let you know what we think!

    Pedi Season

Since I am headed to Florida I needed to get a pedicure for my ugly, pale toes and so I began the fun process of picking out a color and went to the two top nail polish makers - Essie and OPI.

    The Moroccan Pouf

I have seen this floating around the blog world and I am kind of in love.  Kate lives in a standard NY apartment and is always looking for more seating that takes up less space.  I think she should get one or two of these.  Also, stay tuned to see Kate's huge walk in closet, she is probably the only one on her block that has this!  Anyways, back to the Pouf - here are a few of my favorites:

Love the Pop of color here...

    The Merchandise Mart

Two weekends ago Matt and I went to the Merchandise Mart with my parents to walk around the first floor and get some inspiration for our kitchen.  Our main focus was tile and counter tops.  Here are a few pictures that I took as we walked around.

I love how the bottom tile is a bit bigger and thicker, a little fun detail that we would like to do!

We are definitely leaning towards doing a dark counter with the marble backsplash, a lot like this picture!

    All the Single Ladies......& Gentlemen

Looking for that special someone or just a fun night of drinks and good conversation?? Well, look no further than Speed Dating with Style provided by Fastlife.com!

To make some moolah for my Hamptons share I was hired by Fast Life to host speed dating events in NYC.  I have gotten a sneak peak into the lives of NYC singles and it is fascinating.  I think speed dating is a good way to put yourself out there and meet some interesting folks.  Most nights of hosting I witness lots of matching and chemistry!  I would say about 4-5 couples (out of 10-15) are matched each time.

This past week the theme was University Educated and there were lots of smarties in the house looking for love.  The great thing about Fast Life is that events are hosted all over the country.  Chicagoans and NYC friends please sign up for the next event in your area.  Give it a whirl...you have nothing to loose but your single Facebook status!
